silvia's Professional Information

I have been an educator and an administrator for the past 40 years.  In 1979 I opened a Christian School which was a blessing to the community for 10 years.  The following 14 years I took care of my mother and was able to start an independent study program for junior high and high school students who needed a second chance to fullfill their educational needs in a loving and caring environment.  In 2006, my mom passed away and I began a new venture as a principal of a Christian School.   Over the years I have taught almost ever grade level and most subjects, including Spanish, Bible, Science, Math, Literature, Physical Education.  I also planned and organized faculty retreats, junior high retreats , 6th grade camps, and school -wide Science Fairs.  Many of the students science projects won the top awards at the Greater Science and Engineering Fair that is sponsored by the community each year.  I've coached 7th and 8th grade volleyball for 8 years and my teams won their league and came in either first or second place in the final tournaments which involved first and second place teams from various other leagues in the city.

Students who need tutoring will be scheduled to attend either once or twice a week.  I evaluate the areas that they need help in and try to  provide them with a greater understanding of the concepts.  Most of the students provide their own text and I often supplement it with additional supplementary material that is used to reinforce the lessons they seem to have difficulty grasping .From my many years of working with children of all ages I am convinced that what truly influences a student to  to do their best is when a student recognizes that a teacher cares about them, is patient, and encouraging. My personal goal is to recognize that each individual is indeed God's personal treasure and I believe this has been the reason my students have had such success in learning.   My compassion for struggling students, concern for parents and my educational background and experience have all combined to meet the unique needs of each student I have the opportunity to teach.
