From my experience in working in the classroom and in private tutoring, every student learns at their own pace. Therefore, as a tutor I follow this knowledge outside of the classroom and apply it to students I am tutoring. I believe in taking one step at a time and making sure that the students understand and know the steps in what they are learning and not just the answer.
My tutoring style is based on the learning style of the person I am tutoring/teaching. In fact, I have the person take a learning styles quiz type thing to figur out the best and fastest way to teach them. I also base my tutoring style off of the person's pace of learning, attention span, reason for studying this subject, and time we have been given to learn. I try to use fun and quick activities that will make it easier for the person to understand, remember, and use the things he/she is taught.
My tutoring style is to identify areas of strength and weakness with students in order to spend most of their valuable time increasing skills and knowledge in the weaker areas. The idea is to help the whole student, by eliminating the hurdles weak areas are, and then connecting those new skills and strengths to those in which the student already feels confident. Through probing questioning and challenging activities, I hope to push my students past bad habits into new areas of success. This is true whether the student is preparing for a piano recital or completing a report for social studies class.
My personal statement: I have always believed that we learn the most when we are consistently being motivated and encouraged. My goal is to provide all my students unconditional encouragement and support throughout the learning process. I implement pop culture and current events such as arts & music, movies, sports, environmental issues...etc into my lesson plans to make my course contents more relevant and interesting to all my students. I make sure all my students are motivated to learn in a fun, lighthearted atmosphere!
My tutoring style is geared toward each student. I base my lesson on their abilities, shyness,if their outgoing. I try to keep learning fun and exciting. I am a believer in encouragement and rewards,not punishment and take things away. I have learned to adapt each lesson to help the students learn at their pace and level. I DON'T STRESS my students ,If they are frustrated we will move on or figure out a different avenue to get the answer.
