I recently returned to the United States after nearly three years in Rome. I am certified fluent in Italian, having received a grade of B on the CELI 5 language exam. Though I am not a native speaker, I believe the fact that I myself began learning Italian as an adult helps me now as a teacher.
I enjoy working with both adult learners and children. Though children and adults learn language very differently, I believe that it is never too late or too early to start learning another language!
I recently finished teaching a community education course for adults. I have also worked with adults in an immersion setting, coordinating an immersion adult education weekend.
I will be working this summer at an Italian-language immersion camp, working with students from ages seven to eighteen.
I believe that language learning is an individual process, and I like to work with my students in the way that works best for them. If you have a particular weak spot in your previous language study, I would be sure to get you up to speed on that before we moved on. And I would work with you to find materials in Italian that relate to your life.
While grammar is important in foreign language learning, the primary focus should always be communication! I make language learning fun and applicable to everyday life. I use a wide range of materials from various textbooks, music, and the internet. I think that every lesson should include both grammar and conversation, since the point of learning another language is to speak to others!
I am open to any number or frequency of lessons, and I enjoy working with people of all ages. I am available online or in person (if we live near each other!).
Grazie e a presto
