My name is Sheree Thompson. I have a BS degree in Biology and an AAS degree in Radiology. Currently, I work as a radiologic technologist but aspire to become a certified elementary teacher. I have completed the Praxis I and II (Elementary Education) exams that are required towards certification.  I acquired qualifying scores for the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia. I am a private tutor who specializes in grades K-6th. I provide my knowledge, skills, and motivation to encourage students to pursue their educational goals. In order to keep the students engaged, they must be pulled into the lessons. Real life situations must be brought into the lesson so that the student will not only learn the concept but feel apart of the learning process. Whenever a new topic is addressed, it must be reinforced by some kind of learning activity. This provides a gauge of whether the student was engaged and received the information.

Math is my favorite subject. The key to success in math is to practice, practice, practice. Once the concept is learned, it must be frequently repeated so that no information is lost. Visual aids such as counters, blocks, tiles, fake money can be used to make a better understanding for students. Visual aids that can be touched, counted, stacked, added, subtracted produce a better result than writing numbers on a piece of paper.  These visuals help the student to actively participate in the learning process.

An important aspect of effective tutoring is not only being prepared for the lesson but to have a good relationship with the student. I let my students know that I am there for them. Do not be afraid to ask questions and participate. The more you put into it, the more you will receive from it.

In my tutoring agreement, I make a pledge to be on time, be prepared for the lesson, provide satisfactory service. Before ending the session, I summarize the lesson and make recommendations. I am ready and willing to tutor you or your child whenever you are ready. I am willing to meet at a local library near your home. I look forward to helping you or your child reach your educational goals.
