I am currently a high school science teacher, with some private tutoring experience.   I have a PhD. degree in genetics and 11 years of research experience in molecular biology, biochemistry etc.  I switched to teaching in 2006 and hold a teaching certificate in biology from DC Department of Education and American University.  I have taught for over 4 years in a DC high school.  I have taught biology, AP biology, chemistry, environmental science and concepts of physics.  Currently I am the science department chair at my school. 

I enjoy teaching and enjoy interaction with my students.  Although there are situations in which frustrations may result in inner city schools, the rewards and feeling of fulfillment as a result of my teaching are overwhelming, and motivate me to stay in high school teaching. 

In my teaching, I first try to build a good, positive relationship with my students, so I can have students' rapport.  When students feel your love and care for them, they will study "for you".  Secondly I try to apply scaffolding in which, I first use analogies of routine life phenomena, let them brainstorm what they know about these phenomena, and then guide them step by step through the whole processes until they master the concepts.  Thirdly, I try to apply as many teaching tools as possible, including Powerpoint, online websites, random internet resources, hands-on activities, etc.  

My extensive experience in teaching at an inner city high school qualifies me for tutoring in one-on-one, a few, or in larger group situations.  I can assure you a drastic progress in your child.  I can also help you if you are having trouble getting your college assignments finished or you are having trouble passing your tests.  Passing your college tests is a guarantee from me.  You won't regret for trying me out.
