I received my Bachelors in English Literature and Psychology from Gettysburg College. I received my Masters in English Literature from the University of Virginia one year ago. I worked as a camp counselor for four years in college, and a head counselor for one additional year, for 90 children, ages 6-12. I spent one year tutoring high school students in English Literature & Composition at Mercy Vocational High School. The students spent one day a week with me in lieu of attending class. I have been a tutor for various students across various disciplines throughout high school and college.
My goal is to make learning, and especially reading, relevant, engaging and fun for the students! I stress reading comprehension and critical thought. It is important for students to be able to construct and defend a coherent argument in their writing.
As I do have my Masters, I am also available to help undergrad students studying for the Lit GRE particularly, or summer courses in composition/lit. I would be happy to help upcoming senior high school students study for the SAT and/or construct cogent college entrance essays. I would also love to dive into summer reading with students of all ages, helping them to prepare for coursework in the fall.
I have a full-time day job as a Production Editor for academic journals, therefore, I am only available for tutoring on nights and weekends. I would prefer face to face tutoring, but certainly some types of help can be provided via online communication as well. I am open to any ideas parents or students may have, and would be happy to work with them to create a fun and challenging course of study for the summer.
