As a California credentialed teacher I have had a variety of experience. I have substituted at Elementary level and Adult education. I taught Adult English as a Second Language for six months.  I have worked for three tutoring companies in the past and have tutored special and regular education students ages four to Adult. I worked for one year as a teacher's aide in special education, including four months in a first grade classroom with a student who had mild Asperger's Syndrome.

I have experience tutoring reading, writing, and math through Pre-Algebra at a professional tutoring center. I can tutor English as a Second Language, preparing for the SAT verbal section, and preparing for the GED. Currently I am tutoring a sixth grader in pre-Algebra and I am also tutoring two adults for the GED.  My other client speaks English as a Second Language and wants to increase her reading ability so that she can qualify for an A+ certificate in computing.

I really enjoy tutoring students individually and in small groups because it is much easier to see results and improvement comes faster. It is much more rewarding than trying to teach 30 students who are at all different levels, knowing you can't possibly meet all of their needs. With my tutoring students I can tell right away if my technique has worked.  Either the student will tell me that they still don't understand or I can tell by their body language that they haven't understood.  So I try a different method of explaining the concept.  I try to discover each student's individual learning styles and present lessons that are geared to the way a student learns. I use flash cards, computer programs, exercises that I find on the Internet, even games that the students can use to learn.  Everything should be part serious and part fun, since some students remember the fun parts more easily.
