Understanding the reason behind academic rules/concepts is the only proper way to learn. That initial understanding is critical as the rules and concepts only become more complex and build upon themselves as the subject matter progresses. However, many students and teachers substitute memorization of the rules/concepts for an understanding of them. Memorization does not lead to understanding and more importantly, does not allow for advanced understanding as the concepts grow and build upon themselves.
I am an excellent tutor for the following reason. I am aware that no academic subject or concept is difficult or beyond the grasp of any student. The only perceived difficulty is that the student does not understanding the concept mainly due to a lack of understanding of the reason for the concept and how that concept fits into the big picture. Thus, in teaching any academic concept, I am able to quickly determine at what point and why a student is having difficulty grasping the concept. I then focus my thinking and energy to help the student understand the reason for the concept and how the concept fits into the big picture by using whatever it takes, including real world examples, analogies, common sense, flowcharts, etc.
I use visualization to teach the reason behind the rules/concepts, and once you understand the reasons, you never forget. Magically, what was previously difficult, now becomes easy. I have a GMAT score of 730/800, a B.S. in Finance with a 3.87 GPA from Wayne State Univ., and a Masters of Law degree with High Distinction from Georgetown University Law Center. I teach Math, English, Science, the SAT, the LSAT and the GMAT. I also teach guitar and tennis both of which I have been playing for 20 years. I have successfully tutored multiple students with my method. I created an evidence flowchart in my law school class, and my evidence law professor adopted this flowchart to teach her classes each year from 1990 through 2003.
