I want most of all for students to identify the best way that they learn. I allot time early in our sessions to assess whether each student learns most effectively through visual, tactile, kinesthetic or auditory methods or a combination of the styles. After discovering the student’s learning style, I customize my tutoring/coaching approach to his/her needs. When students notice their own understanding of what is taught, they tend to gain confidence and thereby improve academic performance.
I have taught students with hearing impairments who often had learning disabilities as well for over 5 years. I have worked with students through tutoring, camps, after school programs, inclusion and resource classrooms, encountering various learning styles and adapting to each.
