I have been tutoring for over 11 years, 6 of those with Sylvan Learning Centers, 3 years as Director of Education for the center. The last 5 years I have been tutoring privately in clients' homes in one to one situations. I tailor my programs to fit the needs of each individual student. In reading I address phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary building and reading comprehension. In math I focus first on the basics and math facts and then on the curriculum of the district in which the child is enrolled. I use manipulatives and games to introduce and reinforce concepts. I also teach problem solving strategies for word problems. I have worked with home-schooled students and students with learning disabilities. I try to stay abreast of the current trends in education and implement them where appropriate. I believe, that given the opportunity and the right instruction every student can learn.
