I prefer one on one tutoring. I initially assess the students ability to do multiplication and division and to comprehend the word problems. and then set up the problems in an algebraic expression. I will assign homework that is relevent to improving their math skills. The student must turn in their home work for review at their next session. I will require that they explain how they derived their answers, and from this I can determine their weakness.At this point we can start teaching the correct concepts and strategies for attacking math problems. Math is a mental skill and the more practise you have in solving problems the better you become at math. Also, solving math problems tends to increase your critical reading skills. I am an empathetic and understanding teacher and provide a lot of encouragement to my students. Iknow well the problems and anxieties that students have with math. As the student learns concepts and practices solving problems, his anxities are reduced and his confidence increases and he finds it a pleasure to be in class. I recommend 3 one hour tutoring sessions a week to begin . After that we will review his progress and determine what his needs are.I have the clearances required to teach in a Pennsylvania public school--FBI Clearance; Pa Child Abuse History Clearance; Pa. State Police Criminal History Cleatance.
