High energy, expertise, a passion for teaching, and a creative interest in making a difference in students'lives best describes my professional focus. I work easily in a one on one exchange with a student. I am comfortable communicating through email as well. I am clear about my purpose with a student, while I help the student discover his/her personal and academic strengths through formal and informal exchanges.I am collaborative, and I keep in mind always that I wish for the student to love learning and to become an independent learner.
In my thirty-three years in education I have used many different publishers' manuals in my classroom. I understand the state curricular standards, especially for the elementary levels. I have excellent written and oral communication skills. I am particularly good with speech research and writing preparations. My students have won first place three out of the last five years in our district.
I have been Teacher of the Year in two different districts, and I was also a Disney Teacher of the Year nominee.
A unique focus which I bring to my classroom is my passion for physical fitness and the visual and performing arts. I believe students who do not excel in academics can find a very special place at school through physical fitness and the arts. I am attentive to Gardner's multiple intelligence theories. I have seen my class's test score shoot up when I carefully weave consistent P.E. and art projects into their day. I enjoy the opportunity to work with students who want help, and know they need the encouragement and inspiration to forge out their future by educating themselves.
