I will in June finish the 3rd session of struggling very beginning students and
some false beginners with San Patricio County Adult Literacy Council. Most of the
students are from Mexico and are married to local residents...
I worked for Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Latchkey program..
I was in Japan for 20 years after graduating from UTSA in ESL...I taught at university, corporations, conversation schools and did many intensives...I worked
with very nice and well behaved kids and enjoyed their enthusiasm...Latchkey was
a different kettle of fish, but after a rough beginning, really liked the kids and
understood that Americans really do have a lot of freedom..
I am very, very interested in helping people with TOEIC, teaching English through
newspapers, and getting students to reach their goals...I am not against scripted
programs, but if I ever tutor with them, will do what I do in my own classes...
use a standardized text and materials and individualize it and make it interesting
to a student who may need motivation and who needs encoragement...
I don't want to tutor in math or science as I am not a math or science teacher but
am happy to have ELL, ESL or EFL students...and I have gone through McGraw-Hill's
GED in Spanish and English and feel comfortable with the reading, English and social
studies parts of those texts...
I have helped students overseas to communicate online..and I would like to do so
again...
I have a laptop, and will be connected to it soon...
but for now am on at libraries.....
