I start with a diagnostic approach, interview, etc to discover where the student is.
I use hands-on when necessary. I believe in guiding students. I do not feed information to students that they can find out for themselves.
I have tutored adults who need the basics, to elementary students who struggle with reading, language, and math. I prefer to work with elementary students and students from middle school to adults who have not grasped the basics in Mathematics, Reading, or English Language. I believe if someone does not have the foundation in Math, they will never be successful in higher Math. I compare it to building a house. Without the foundation, the house is no good.
I have worked in Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, and in Florida for twenty-two years. I am presently retired, but holds certification until 2013. I am an hourly teacher with the Dade County School System where I tutor students who are preparing for the FCAT Test. I specialize in Fifth grade Math, and Fourth and Eighth Grade Writing.
I try to maintain a good relationship with my students and their parents. I find that this builds a workable situation where my clients find me approachable and understanding when emergencies arise.
