gene's Professional Information

I'm a medical school graduate who loves to teach. Currently, I am tutoring full-time while anticipating the start of my residency training in July, 2010. Right now I'm concentrating exclusively on health care professionals. Some of my students includ(ed) nursing, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, medical students. My areas of highest expertise include subjects like anatomy, histology, biochemistry, physiology, neuroscience, genetics, pathology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, etc... Additionally, I am very comfortable tutoring such medical specialties as Internal Medicine (and most of its subspecialties), Surgery, Pediatrics, Ob/Gyn, Psychiatry, Neurology, etc… My tutoring experience dates back to my undergraduate years, when I started offering private lessons to high-school students in science, mathematics and essay composition. Additionally, as a senior at NYU, I served as a professor assistant in Chemistry, conducting study groups, providing homework assistance and grading quizzes. Early in medical school, I taught small group clinics to classes behind me in the material I had already mastered. One of my most noteworthy qualities as a teacher is the professionalism with which I approach every teaching session. Practically, this translates to the amount of time I spend preparing for class. Prior to meeting with a student, I must make sure that I have virtually complete mastery of the subject matter and an efficient method of delivering it. In addition to that, I am a firm believer in using visual aids, such as diagrams and pictures, during my sessions, to help augment the learning process. As a tutor, I am very patient and tolerant, owing to my appreciation of the fact that we all have different capacity for learning. Having said that, I like to encourage and challenge my students with example problems during sessions. This practice also helps me determine whether or not my listeners are able to follow the lesson.
