I am a retired business executive / business owner. I was Office Manager, Sales Engineer, Vice-President, President and finally owner of a machine tool manufacturing company over the course of my 25 year career with that company. My firm sold machine tool products internationally and had three manufacturing plants in Detroit, Michigan, Troy, Michigan and Coventry, England. During my career with this company I introduced the company to its first computerized accounting system, initiated and supervised the use of computer controls on our grinding machine products, initiated and supervised the use of computer aided drafting equipment in the engineering department of the company, bought, supervised and eventually sold a manufacturing division located in Coventry England and moved our Detrouit area production facilities out of the old "Rivertown" section of Downtown Detroit and moved it to Troy, Michigan. I assisted in the design and layout of our new manufacturing facility in Troy. I bought the company on as leveraged buy-out in 1992. I retired at an early age in 2001 due to the onset of Parkinson's disease, and I sold the company. I returned to school in mechanical engineering after I retired from business where I spent 4 years pursuing my PhD in Mechanical Engineering. I finally gave this effort up when my Parkinson's symptoms became too burdensome for me to attend school. I now tutor students in math, science, business and engineering subjects. I relly enjoy being able to help my students understand their subject matter. I find that demonstration of problem solving methods by doing problems with the student followed by the student doing problems on their own under supervision of the tutor works well in most situations. I prefer to tutor in person so I can see the student's face. This helps me determine if the student really does understand the point at hand. Online tutoring can work well with those students who have already achieved a basic understanding of the subject.
