Salvete! I teach Latin through a process of assimilation, the way people learn language as children. I begin with stories made of the very simplest sentences and gradually increase the complexity of the sentences as the vocabulary expands. This is in contrast to the traditional approach to Latin which begins by memorizing the complete first verb declension, then the complete first noun conjugation. My first step after being contacted by a prospective parent and/or student is to send the materials for the first ten lessons.
The stories that I use in my readings also differ from the traditional military/political ones or 'the twins visit the farm' sort. My translation texts involve unusual cultural perspectives, mythology, and fairy tails.
Similarly, I prefer matching and crossword puzzles for reinforcing vocabulary and grammar, as opposed to: "Translate these ten ablative construction sentences:"
Finally, my approach is one of fascination with the ancient Roman culture and enjoyment in their unique language.
If you are looking for assistance with a Latin course involving the Cambridge Latin or Ecce Romani series and prefer them to the text materials I can provide to you, I would be very pleased to assist you along the way with those as well.
In German, I prefer the Deutsch Aktuell series but will gladly help students with other texts. I also use a lot of German Internet sites in order to familiarize students with absolutely current German language usage and culture.
