I am a certified teacher with 21 years experience.  Reading and ESL are my specializations with training in Neuhaus,  Lindamood-Bell Phonemic Awareness,  Accelerated Reading and Guided Reading.  In addition to my BS,  I completed 12 hours at University of Houston for my ESL certification and have a Kindergarten Endorsement.  During my career, I have accumulated hundreds of hours of staff development training and workshops in all subject areas including classroom management to enhance the learning of my students.

In addition to classroom experience, I have served in multiple leadership positions and on multiple committees including Team Leader, training student teachers, Campus Advisory Committees as well as curriculum based committees throughout my tenure. 

My strengths include implementing literacy based reading instruction using guided reading techniques and leveled readers both narrative and expository, creating unique lessons which  provide for all learning styles, hands on Math using manipulatives and using Love and Logic to help maintain an organized yet warm learning environment.  I want to start building a positive rapport with the student by discussing his or her favorite activities or through drawing, writing activities, games and fun social activities and depending on age what he or she hopes to accomplish through our lessons.

I like to begin by getting to know my student’s strengths and weaknesses by meeting with the parents, student and teacher if possible.  I will study both formal and informal test scores and plan exciting learning experiences for your student based on weak areas.   If your goal is to work ahead of grade level, I can plan for that as well.   I will provide feedback to the parents through a written report each week to monitor student progress.

Integrating Reading, Writing, Language and Spelling is extremely important.  I try to incorporate all together as much as possible along with Math if needed.  I try to build on prior knowledge through brain storming and discussion and when planning lessons, I consider different learning styles.  Some children are visual learners as opposed to auditory.  Others learn best through a tactile approach.
