I am an Engineer with a Masters Degree in Electronics, originally from Ukraine and have been in the US for 20 years. I have been tutoring mostly online for the past year and have only positive feedback from my students.
My method of teaching is well structured and instead of just memorizing words, sentences and some handy speech constructions i prefer to teach the rules how to complete correct sentences. This has a positive effect and my students usually start speaking Russian after about 8 lessons.
The fact that I am fluent in Russian, Ukrainian and English gives me an advantage of a deep understanding of the relationship and differences between Russian and English languages. I am also very good at explaining things due to a correct and accurate choice of words.
I have been working with different ages and language learning skills. My lessons are customized, that means I am going at the student pace and my own system and learning materials. These learning materials include PDF formatted documents for each lesson and multimedia materials, designed and recorded by myself.
I am very flexible in time and normally require one-hour cancellation notice. It is really easy to communicate with me and there are many different ways of doing that. As you can imagine I am very familiar with both Russian and American culture and thus always able to explain the differences, common mistakes, difficulties and misunderstandings that are often happen because of cultural differences.
I often translate (in an easy to understand and to match the Russian original document) style interesting stories, read out loud and record them, make compact mp3 files and send them to my students or make them available for download. This makes learning much easier and fun.
Sometimes my students decide to visit Russia and then they learn with me an “emergency kit” – the absolutely necessary phrases and words that they may need during their tour. It does not depend how proficient my student in Russian and at what stage of studying the student is, he or she always feels prepared for the journey to Russia just in time.
