I have a passion for teaching and take great pride in the success thatthe students I work with, often achieve. I believe that as teachers we are agents of change. When a student comes for help, I look for the most effective method to teach them the skills and knowledge they need to change their academic difficulties into abilities. By focusing on filling in the information missing for a complete understanding of the topic, I want students to feel that they are prepared for their next exam. I also want to instill in each student the importance of being diligent at completing and submitting all homework assignments promptly. It is my job to find and mediate whatever difficulties I can, including identifying counterproductive behavior that may interfere with their success. In my twenty-five years of teaching, I have seen virtually every manner of learning difficulty that can impede academic achievement and success. In some situations, making an initial effort focused on damage control can contain and limit the effects of a poor start in a course, allowing students to regain their self-confidence and assert academic competence.
My training as an engineer has given me extensive knowledge in advanced mathematics and the applied sciences. In addition to the core subjects, I offer help in a multitude of advanced topics including chemistry I & II, Physics, biology, environmental & the earth sciences. Mathematics is my forte, and I can help students in virtually any area of math, from the basics, all the way through college level advanced calculus.
Admissions test can potentially stand as an obstacle to students seeking access to institutions of higher education. I help students prepare for these exams and deal with any test anxiety so they achieve a successful outcome. I teach students the skills required to be effective at taking exams, as well as providing them with the requisite knowledge to achieve their goal.
I try to minimize the fear and anxiety that many students associate with subjects like math and science. Learning should be enjoyable and intellectually stimulating, not laborious and agonizing. A positive attitude is always important, especially when one teaches; I want my enthusiasm to be contagious. I often combine effective learning strategies with an individually tailored lesson for each student’s particular learning style. My objectives also includes teaching students how to learn more effectively on their own, so they can achieve cognative independence and self-sufficiency in learning.
