In 2004, I graduated from the University of Notre Dame, with a B.A. in Political Science, and an emphasis in American Government. This past spring (2010), I received my J.D. from Regent University School of Law. In the interim, I worked in corporate as well as non-profit, have been published in multiple venues, and served as editor-in-chief over various writing projects.
My passions are writing, reading and public speaking. I firmly believe that, regardless of age, each individual is fully capable, not only of learning to love language, but of mastering it, as well. Thus, my desire in tutoring is not merely to help a student pass, but also, to awaken an understanding of what a mastery of vocabulary, phonics, reading and writing can mean for the future. (In addition, I'm quite fond of law, politics, government, and history as well as more basic math and the social sciences.)
While I have not had extensive tutoring experience, I have held multiple positions where I was responsible for training and teaching, giving feedback and editing. Past responsibilities included managing and editing the writing of eighteen associates and board members. My position required that I explain and help the individual understand what was required of her, help the individual understand the subject matter, provide writing guidance, give feedback and ultimately, served as editor-in-chief of the final product later used by judges and lawyers in the Virginia, North Carolina and Washington D.C. area. Moreover, I have trained multiple groups of individuals in bioethical reform. Like tutoring, this training included presenting information to a person, guiding him through his training, listening and asking questions and providing guidance as to ways he could improve his own work and presentation.
Because each student is different, my desire is to discover what best suits him or her, and craft our sessions toward each student's particular bent. There is no reason why each student cannot learn to love learning. My goal is to achieve that end.
