alicia's Professional Information

I am 22 years old and have just moved to the Scottsdale area from Wisconsin.  I graduated with a double major in Human Biology and Spanish and a double minor in Biochemistry and Hispanic Health and Human Resources. I studied abroad two times in Guatemala and Costa Rica, where I earned over 20 of the credits for my Spanish major.  I also served as a volunteer at physical therapy and medical clinics in both countries where I worked primarily with autistic children.  

I have worked and volunteered at several organizations in Wisconsin throughout my four years in college.  I was a Community Health Intern at a urgent care center in a Hispanic community in Milwaukee where 95 percent of the patients spoke only Spanish.  I later aided as a community health advocate and facilitated research on the acculturation process in the Hispanic community.  I have worked with children ages 4 to 12 through the Big Brother Big Sister program at a school with a primarily Hispanic population.  I was a volunteer mentor my first year in college and went on to work as a site mentor for the organization my sophomore year.  I was also an ESL volunteer at a local technical college my freshman year of college. Most recently, I was a bilingual computer class instructor/tutor at a Hispanic Resource Center for five months this past spring. I taught Hispanic adults basic computer skills in their native language in small groups and also on a one-on-one basis. 

I am very patient, organized, and love working one-on-one with people.  I am flexible and know how to adapt my communication and teaching approaches to best help whoever I am working with.  I am currently working to pay off my undergraduate loans and save for graduate school and am seeking part-time positions within the Scottsdale area.
