Experience:

I have worked with K-7th grade students for almost 3 years through the Boys and Girls Club after school and summer programs. I have helped over 50 students complete their homework, understand concepts, and improve their reading and math skills. I enjoy working with kids and helping them understand concepts they struggle with at school. I've experienced large-group, small-group, and one-on-one tutoring.

As a student, I have been involved in MESA, EAOP, and the Upward Bound Program, which have exposed me to various tutoring styles and from which I've learned a lot regarding student-tutor interaction. I have personal experience with PSAT, SAT, and AP exam preparation and can definitely help students currently preparing for these tests. 

Tutoring style:

I avoid giving students the answer to problems/questions; instead I prefer to spend time helping them find the answer themselves. In cases where students have a hard time understanding a specific concept (whether it's a math problem or reading a long word), I like to break down the problem to more basic concepts that can be understood by the student, and then work our way to the final problem. 

I am very patient, adaptable and friendly. 

Education and expertise:

I have an Associate's Degree in Social and Behavioral Science and another in Performing Arts from Citrus College in Glendora, CA. I am currently working on my Bachelor's in Anthropology at the University of California Los Angeles. 

Additionally, I'm a fluent Spanish speaker (scored a 5 in AP Spanish Lang., and AP Spanish Literature exams) and can work well with students learning English as a second language, as well as with English speakers learning Spanish.

I also have vast experience in the college application process and can help students writing and revising their personal statements. My applications have been accepted into UCSC, Georgetown University, and UCLA.
