I have been tutoring students since my Junior year in high school, when I was inducted as a member of the National Honor Soceity and have continued through college and since graduation. I love to help students become better in any subject and to see them succeed in the present and apply their skills to future learning opportunities. I am a graduate of Western School of Technology and Environmental Science's class of 2005 where I was an Environmental Science magnet student and have been exposed to all high school sciences and upper level classes in Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemisty, and Oceanography to name a few. From there I attended Randolph-Macon College where I was a Religious Studies major and Ethics minor, I maintained a 4.0 GPA in my major, was inducted into Theta Alpha Kappa, the religious studies/theology honor society, the first recipent of the Randolph-Macon College Man of Vision Award and a perennial dean's list member. While at Randolph-Macon College I was taught an approach to learning for life, which includes critical reading, and engaging with materials to become a better student overall. After graduation in 2009 with my BA I have sought to teach other students who may be struggling or seeking a leg up in their classes. I like to teach one on one teaching stressing study skills, and better compreshion to exceed in all classes and for these students to be able to go onto better classes, and colleges as well. Mainly I seek to focus on an area where the student is struggling, and find out why by asking them questions. Then I walk them through a better process for engaging with the material. This usually consists of getting them to calm down, search out key words, and use a structured method to problem solving.
I would love the chance to work with your student because it is my goal to give every student a chance to succeed in and out of the classroom.
