As a classroom teacher I teach to the entire student, not just the academic side. I believe in honesty, providing a good example for students to follow, and utilizing a high energy approach to teaching. I work hard and am as nice as I can be, so I expect the same to in return. I keep a rigorous schedule that allows for breaks in flow, but displayable results are expected. I also incorporate as much supplemental material as possible into my lessons. Students will be reading relatable materials from literature and also watching television and movie clips in order to not just help them understand one concept but to open their eyes to other means of learning. I assess progress in multiple ways but I am a firm believer in discussion and evaluative essay which makes students not just repeat memorized words but to make the material their own and transform it into their own words.
In short, I am a passionate and energetic professional that believes in teaching to the whole student, settling for nothing less than excellence, and in modeling the attributes of a responsible adult in a democracy inside and outside of the classroom. It was this, in addition to my wide base of content knowledge that earned me the prestigious Scholar of Excellence award from my professors and peers upon graduating, given to those considered to be the best of the best in the graduating class. As a teacher, my students posted some of the highest aggregate scores in the Walled Lake district on mandatory district-wide standardized tests. I consider myself a passionate and dedicated professional who can relate to most students and who makes the effort to be seen as human, likeable, and generally interested in the lives of my students.
