Teaching and tutoring is something I really have a passion for - so many students can easily improve scores, gain insights, and build enthusiasm with just a little extra help. I have a BS in Applied Physics from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Plasma Physics from MIT. I've had the privilege to learn from some amazing teachers as well slog it out with some not so amazing ones - and such is the nature of learning. If you're finding yourself slogging it out, let me give you some extra help.
I have been tutoring/teaching college level math/physics for the past 10 years. I worked as a Teaching Assistant for 2 years at Cornell, 1 year at MIT and privately tutored 1-on-1 while at MIT. The bulk of my teaching experience has been in Calculus 1 & 2, as well as introductory Mechanics & introductory E&M. I love to teach these subjects mainly because it wasn't that long ago that I was struggling with the same material. For motivated high school students, this material is basically the same level that students take in the AP progression. I scored 5's on both the AB and BC AP Calculus exams and a 4 on the Physics B exam. I have plenty of experience with standardized tests, and have no problem tailoring my tutoring in preparation of the spring AP exams. I have also worked with high school students in Algebra, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus; and upper division college students in Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Mechanics, Electricity & Magnetism, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics.
In my tutoring I try to not only teach students how to solve problems and score well on homework sets and exams, but I feel it is also important to help students with their study skills, ability to learn from textbooks, time management, and how to balance studying with social time and/or athletics. These skills are essential for a student to succeed in the college environment. For high school students, I can also provide help with the college application process.
