I have experience working at summer camps, babysitting, tutoring, and teaching.  I tutored at a Huntington Learning Center for over a year.  I've also done a bunch of volunteering involved with working with kids.  Most of my experience is with kids ages 3-10 (especially kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade).  I have experience working with children with learning disabilities (especially ADHD).  I have experience in elementary math, reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary, phonics, and study skills.  There is potential for me to help with science and social studies as well.

I try to fit my teaching style to my student's learning style so it's important to get to know my students.  I'm not afraid to try new things and be “different.” I am patient, calm, organized, dependable, responsible, and caring.  I bring creativity, humor, and enthusiasm to my work.  I enjoy incorporating games, music, movement, online activities, social skills activities, & listening skills activities into lessons.  Just doing drill-and-practice worksheets is boring!

I want to help my students develop a love of learning by actively involving them in that process.  I also want to help my students become caring, respectful, and responsible.  Lastly, I want to help my students become open-minded, creative, and critical thinkers, decision-makers, and problem-solvers.

I hope to find out my student's interests so I can incorporate them into lessons when possible.  I also want to figure out my student's learning style.  Does he/she learn best by reading silently or aloud, listening, music, movement, puzzles, charts & graphs & illustrations, worksheets, games, hands-on, or something else?  If one approach doesn't seem to work, I'll try another!

I can focus on skills-based practice or school curriculum.  My job is to meet my student's needs!  I hope to incorporate input from the both student and parent to help me individualize my services.  Each child is unique!
