I find no greater joy than in witnessing the excitement when a student finally "gets it!" That is why I've dedicated my life and career to teaching. I received my Bachelors in Education with an English concentration from William Carey University. I am currently certified in the state of Mississippi to teach Language Arts to middle and high school students, and I have 5 years of experience teaching in the classroom. I started my academic tutoring career as a peer tutor in high school helping students improve their grades in a variety of courses. Since I achieved the highest ACT score in my school, many of my classmates began asking for my help to improve their own test scores. As I matriculated, I began tutoring in after school programs. Since then, I've spent over 10 years as a tutor for all ages and various subjects including, but not limited to, preschool - elementary reading and math, middle and high school English, and undergraduate and master's level essay writing. In addition, I continue to tutor students in SAT and ACT prep, ASVAB, and GED testing.
Throughout my teaching career, I have worked continuously to provide individualized, innovative lessons and challenging curriculum designed to empower students to reach their full academic and social potential. I believe that the best way to do this is through first discovering each student's unique gifts and interests and then tailoring instruction to tap into those talents in fun, exciting, and rewarding ways. If the student likes to work with his hands, then we would use tiles to put sentences together. If the student likes to talk, then we would read the essay aloud before doing any editing. If a student is an auditory learner, then we would craft a song to learn vocabulary words, etc. In this way, the student is always involved and engaged in instruction designed just for him/her. I find great pleasure in being a patient, loving, and dedicated teacher. I also find my greatest joy in serving and helping others, and I consider it a calling and a gift to be able to teach students of all ages.
