Because I am a Psychology major and am continuing my education to become a Counselor, my approach is mostly psychological. I believe that if you are having a problem understanding something, the problem is the way that it is presented. I teach study skills, note taking, and listening strategies as well as how to keep your school work organized in a way which YOU are comfortable. I think creative approaches are the best ones, learning can be FUN.

The first session will cost more than subsequent appointments because it will be the longest. This is where we get to know each other and I get to know your strengths and weaknesses as a student. We put together a plan of action where we work cooperatively to set and acheive your academic goals. The majority of students that I have helped have had the same cheif complaint - the professor/teacher is hard to understand. When a professor teaches a classrom full of students, (s)he presents it in the way in which (s)he understands it best. The problem is that not everyone learns best by the same method or even at the same pace. Being a tutor means discovering the way in which you learn information, presenting it in the best way for you, and then making sure you understand. Getting individual attention from a tutor is a wonderful way to boost your test scores, your homework grades, and your overall understanding of a subject.

I have experience peer tutoring in high school and in community college. I created and directed MTSU's first tutoring program for psychology students via Psi Chi. Through the program I developed, Psi Chi helped a dozen psychology students pass their courses. The program continues although I have graduated. I have tutored Algebra, English Composition, and a variety of psycholgy and sociology classes.
