     Coming from a family of educators, I knew at a very young age that I wanted to work with young children.  At the age of 15, I had a work permit and worked at a school for "special needs" children. The next summer I worked for a day care center, working with ages 2-6 and continued this type of work until I graduated from collage.  After earning a B. S. in Early Childhood Education, I began teaching in the public school system.  I have taught kindergarten through sixth grade and enjoy each level of learning.

   There are a couple of reasons why I am interested in tutoring.  One reason is that I am beginning to experience the empty nest syndrome because both of my daughter have flown the coop.  The ball games, play practice, cheerleading... are over and I want to fill my time with something I enjoy.  The second reason is that I am thrilled when I can help a child reach a goal, make the grade, grasp the concept and "get it" because I know all of these enhance the child's self-esteem.

     I am aware that each individual child has their own way of learning.  It is my goal to identify that mode of learning and to provide activities, materials and lessons that will encourage learning.  I strive to provide various types of activities (games, flashcards, art, computer, books, paper/pencil...) to keep the lessons fun, interesting and engaging.  Sometimes the best learning takes place when it is masked as a game for the child.   

    I also feel that it is extremely important for the parents to be informed on the goals and progress.  I have a weekly summary report that keeps parents up to date on what goals have been worked on and the progress that is being made.

     I prefer to work in my home or at a center (public library).  My hours are flexible during the summer months and change to late afternoons during the school year.  I tutor individual students or can group similar ages/abilities together (discount provided).  There is not a long term contract but do have a cancellation contract.
