As Leo Buscaglia once said, "It is paradoxical that many educators and parents still differentiate between a time for learning and a time for play without seeing the vital connection between them." Students need to be assisted in a way that makes them want to, or at least not hate it. A child wanting to learn is an everlasting precious trait, no matter the subject.
A set tutoring style isn't logical. Every student has different needs, interests, learning styles and wants, therefore they must be instructed accordingly. I grew up with the instruction that anything less than a 100% is bad...well, no it isn't. For some, even if they try hard and complete all their work, a specific subject just may not be their métier. I try to work with students in whatever way fits their interest and needs.
Previously I was employed by my local university as a community based instructor. There I would assist in tutoring and instructing 20-40 elementary to middle school students for a few hours after school. That is when I decided I truly decided I had a love for teaching. Currently volunteering at the a local children's hospital has allowed that love for the purity of children and their, sometimes hidden, passion for learning to grow immensely.
Growing up in a much less fortunate family, as a young elementary school student when asked what I wanted to be the answer "a teacher" would always come out of my mouth. Since then receiving my teaching license along the way to other educational goals, would be a significant milestone and a childhood dream. I graduated highschool at 16 years old and received my bachelors in arts, majoring in international relations, when I was 18. I finished 70 more credits within the two years following from George Washington University, with an ambition of clinical laboratory sciences. Currently I am finishing my prerequisites for med school while trying to obtain more tutoring opportunities.
Usually the biggest concern is the cost; I am always willing to work something out. That should not be a burden.
