I like to help my students find associations with what they are studying to something relevant in their present life - how something in the book or  back then is important now. I try to give varied ways to coming to understand material, and I use other resources that supplements the required coursework - more about that below

I have three academic degrees - a B.A. in comparative religion, M.A. in Urban Studies, and a Masters of Divinity. and so I have taken many courses in history, geography, religion, sociology, philossophy, literature, political science, and humanities. As a professional I have taught children, teen, and adults in my 30 year career as an ordained clergy person. I like to see individuals come to new understandings and see the light go on in their minds. I have worked with large classes, small groups, and individuals.

I have tutored at a local private high school off and on over the the last few years in English, History, and Humanities. I like to help my students make connections with what they are studying to things that are relevant now in their lives - the material in the book or the event back then how does it effect them today. I also like to supplement the assigned classroom material with other resources. With one student in American History I used a book that had a collection of pictures from the National Portrait Gallery. That way he got to see what the person looked like mentioned in his history book, and have more of an understanding of a personality that infuenced history. With another student in humanities I lent him books from my comparative religion library that helped him better understand his course work. I also help my students find associations in their minds that help them have better recall of things for tests. It can be any thing that works, and it may be somthing that just comes up in our conversation that helps that.

Finally, I also have tutoring my teen children with their school work for many years. So I feel very confident to help students in the subjects with which I am familiar.
